How cool would it be if someone made props like from the show, perhaps a dematerializer and a ghost buggy. Wonder if anyones ever done it before?

I've thought about that myself. There was someone over at one of the Columbia Ghostbusters boards asking for pictures so that they could make blueprints for a dematerializer. If I can find it, I'll post the link - but I think it was at ghostbusters.net and that board is down at the moment. Zack, you might remember that thread as well and could find it faster than I.

My best friend is a master at making props. He and I made Proton Packs years ago that are made out of polystyrene foam. They are light weight and look great, but you have to be GOOD to take a sheet of foam and make it into something accurate. I talked to him about making a Dematerializer based upon the live-action series and he is open to it. I will let you know if he ever makes one and have a picture of it on my OGB Web page.

ACK! Ya got me!!!! I was wondering how long it would be...
That was me--I got really busy with schoolwork and didn't have time. Now that I've got the DVDs I have a good reference point to work from. Do you know anyone who can help me with the electronics side of it?

Thanks, Prime! Now, let's see...don't say anything else while I think about this a little...
Hmm. Okay. Just watched "The Vampire's Apprentice" this morning. Had a few good views of the Demat Gun.
YOU WILL NEED:
The drum (as I like to call it)--this is a cylinder about 6 inches diameter and about...oh, say 2 inches thick. This will contain the strobe and all electronics within. The main box, sections 1 and 2--these are 2 inches thick and 3 inches long. These contain the handlebars and wiring, and are also mostly decoration around the drum. The handlebars--get yourself a metal (or PVC) pipe about 12-15 inches long (if not more) and the handgrips from a wheelchair (these are often used as Proton Pack handles). You may need to cut a hole dead center in the middle of the pipe for the wiring/electronic stuff. This is why PVC might be better, actually. The "light box" on top--if you want to be really clever, you can get yourself some actual lightbulbs/LEDs which go: Red Red Red Green Yellow Orange Or, if you don't want to be clever, simply paint some raised bumps in the respective colors. A spinning bicycle mirror on the top of the light box (why did they put that on there?)
Pictures forthcoming, as soon as I can get some downtime to draw something up. It's hard working from memory alone, y'know?

Trying to draw the goldurn Dematerializer, but I can't seem to get it quite right yet. Also, can anyone find me a link to a battery-operated strobe light and/or figure out a way to get it into the shape I have in mind (ie wired to a trigger switch of some sort)?

Looks like they all need to be plugged in. Mind you, I did see a battery version at Walgreen's last Halloween...
Besides that, the wiring shouldn't be too difficult. All you need is to connect the trigger switches to the strobe so it'll work. I'll have to find someone who can iron out the rest of it for me, though.
Actually, this one looks pretty interesting:http://www.lightgod.com/store/product.asp?id=1930&catid=183
And, if you've got it in your head to customize your Kenner ECTO-1/1A: http://www.lightgod.com/store/default.asp?catid=1&subcatid=341. I use these all the time--small yet effective.

And another website:
www.qkits.com ----------------------
EDIT: April 22, 2008
Here, THIS kit looks pretty good:
http://store.qkits.com/moreinfo.cfm?Product_ID=915
It's a 16-LED rotating chaser light that looks like it runs on a 9-volt battery. Now, somebody who's especially clever should figure out how to rig the trigger assembly to it. Ideally, the trigger button should be a spring-loaded toggle switch (the kind that returns when you release pressure--can't leave this thing on too long!) I do have one other concern, though, and that's how to "focus" the LED lights, to make that kind of "fireball" effect from the TV show?
P.S. Also, it looks like you might be able to pick up the kit for the light-box on the top.

Try this site: www.instructables.com
There is an LED wiring guide, but I'm not sure how to apply it.

The shutter on the Dematerializer looks like it comes from a spotlight. It's too big to have come from a camera. I'll try to find some kind of place where I can buy the shutter itself, but I don't know.
