It's mostly physical, yes. All it's used for is to slow the offending ghost enough for the Dematerializer to have a clear shot.

Maybe, but I felt that it needed the "only three shots" limitation, since the main Dematerializer should be the default.

After a long period of absence:
GHOST GLASSES
Unlike Ray Stantz's Paragoggles, the Ghost Glasses (Spectre Shades? I'll have to go back and watch "Shades of Drac" again.) are not used to see ghosts, but to protect the wearer from magic and psychic attacks, such as Medusa's gaze or the eyes of a Basilisk. They can also protect against hypnotism, as exemplified in the Dracula case.
