I'm glad that you totally agree with me, and I totally agree with you Prime Good regarding what you posted about Columbia and Filmation. When you think about it, there are a few similarities in the Columbia GB movie stolen from the Filmation live-action GB TV series. Not only the live-action Filmation GB team used a scientific device to get rid of the paranormal pest, but just think about their car for a moment. It was a WHITE old car, with a GB EMBLEM ON THE DOORS! Not to mention the Columbia GB team picked an OLD CAR for running around in. I think that boils down to coincidence, by and large--the ECTO-1 is white mostly because it had to be visible at night (it was almost a black car with strobe lights). However, just imagine what would have happened if Ivan Reitman hadn't decided to recast the movie as a "going-into-business" storyline...

I think that GHOSTBUSTERS was a winner because the origin story, Nix. Origin stories of epic characters work so well on celluloid!

I think that GHOSTBUSTERS was a winner because the origin story, Nix. Origin stories of epic characters work so well on celluloid! You mean, you *don't* know? Well... Legend has it that Dan Aykroyd's original ghostbusting concept, back when John Belushi was part of the team, was very different from what we all know and love. Apparently, the Fearsome Four were, originally, a team of blue-collar exterminators* who bombed around through time and space in their Ectomobile** battling ghosts. Their boss, Mr. Shandor***, was supposed to be some kind of a collector of ghosts, which his employees captured for him. Naturally, this would have gone horribly over budget, like a Terry Gilliam film. So, Reitman says, "Nope, sorry, this won't work, rewrite!" And the rest is history. *Similar to Kong, Spenser and Tracy; they hadn't become out-of-work scientists yet. **At this stage, ECTO-1 functioned more like the animated Ghostbuggy, with time-travel capabilities. ***For "Shandor", read "Zero".

Good call, Nix. "Ghost Smashers" (the original name - before they got the rights to use Ghost Busters) would have been extremely close to the original idea of the 70s tv show. dunno how I missed that one. Of course, Smashers just doesn't have the same ring to it as "busters." - in my opinion.

Hey, you know what we should do? We should cast a fantasy FGB movie. Kind of like fantasy football, but with actors instead of dwarves and Orcs competing for the most touchdowns. ...Oh. That's NOT what fantasy football means? My bad. Anyhoo, here's my cast nominations: Adrien Brody with a blonde wig--Jake Jennifer Love Hewitt--Jessica Wray Andy Serkis--Tracy, Scared Stiff (voice of Matthew Broderick), Airhead Me--Haunter, Madame Why, voices of Prime Evil and Airhead (I can do a very good Prime Evil; wish I could provide a demo) French Stewart--Fib Face (both heads) Charlie Sheen--Spenser Sr. ------ COSTUMING NOTE: It might be interesting to recast Fib Face as the Roman god Janus, and give him a toga and olive branch headdress.

I just saw Indiana Jones and...the Crystal Skull yesterday, and all through it, Shia LeBoeuf kept reminding me of Jake!
Do you think he'd be able to pull off what I've got in mind, that of the leading man who's adored by fangirls who don't know him personally, and that he's a bit of a jerk--Jake, that is, not Shia--in need of redemption by the people whom he works with (a bit like Neil Anderson from the Denver Ghostbusters series)?

Now that you're saying that... wow, you're RIGHT, I see the strict similarity between the two! Never noticed before... what a blast! (IMHO, the movie sucked, however). (The Denver Ghostbusters You find me lost here, who are them?)

Ah, yes, I'm sorry for confusing you!
Denver Ghostbusters is a franchise created by Ghosthead Hank Braxtan for his two fanfilms: Freddy vs. Ghostbusters (which, by all accounts, is quite good) and Return of the Ghostbusters, which made headlines in the Ghostbusters fandom for its very impressive special effects, especially the CGI work.

(IMHO, the movie sucked, however). I find myself in agreement with you, thinking about it. There was definitely something missing from IJ4. At least Harrison Ford being a near lookalike for Forrest Tucker does help somewhat...actually, that would be an interesting custom for me to think about!

Oh, and: I like the idea of Tracy being similar to Beast from X-Men, whoever suggested it. I suppose it could be explained within the FGB Universe. Who did suggest it? It's friggin' brilliant!

The picture of "Tracy" on the poster looks like it's a screengrab of Beast from "X-Men 3."

"Tracy", our beloved gorilla, can be explained in a lot of ways... genetic mutation... a creature from the distant past or the far future... and so on.
