There's much confusion surrounding this. Or not?
Is W. just a "supporter" or a full member of the squad?

Poor Winston! Yeah he gets the shaft all the time. Its mostly has to do with him not being at the first two major scenes in the first movie. The good news for Winston fans is he was treated pretty fairly in the video game. The Cartoon for all its short comings tried to give Winston a equal footing with the rest. After all Every group needs the street smarts type in it. Tho sometimes it feels raciest how they avoid Winston in promotional items. Heck see what wikia did for a first ad on Sony's ghostbusters wiki.... Oh by the way, I didn't make that banner. Heres the pic they edited so you know where Winston was.... images1.wikia.nocookie.net/ghostbusters/images/2/22/GhostbustersdefeatingGozer.pngYeah so wikia made a image of Winston being zapped! lol

LOL, I'm just wondering what is gonna happen with the third movie coming out. You know... I would like to see Winston as the mentor of the new GB squad, somehow. Cool!

Well its well known that even during the last 15 years Ernie Hudson has always been a real supportive guy towards the fans. Much like Bob Burns is to FGB. I hope fans remember his supportive attitude when speculating about the new movie. Because I know Bill Murray motioned that Winston should be a full member in GB2, and Dan Aykroyd tends to listen to fans so with that support it would most likely hold him in the group.

Looking forward to the third movie, and maybe Winston saving the rest of them from certain doom at some point!

[ Because I know Bill Murray motioned that Winston should be a full member in GB2, SO this means he's still *NOT* a full member in GB2?

I feel Winston is a full member by GB2, definitely. In the beginning of GB2, the way he and Ray speak before and after the birthday party makes it seem like they're great friends. Add that to Winston's Ghostbusting skill, and I'd say he was definitely made as fully paid and official as the other three sometime between GB1 and GB2

His biggest skill is that he actually does the job, LOL.

According to the audio comentary on the Ghostbusters film DVD it was said Winston was supposed to be the surrogate for the aidience who would ask what they would ask and who they could identify with. Basicly he was the equivalent of a Dr.Who Companion, but they had so little to use him for that it almost looked like tokenism. Of course he stands out because he is the best one - For Things To Happen To.

By the way, the scene in GB2 where he saves Ray and Egon from the photo-lab fire was written specifically for Winston by Harold Ramis. The scene is absent from the NOW Comics graphic novel; Peter uses a Polaroid insta-cam rather than a traditional camera.

I have actually noticed a trend as I have been researching for (Sony)GBs. Seems that the UK promotions for the first movie, and second movie leaned more for the three ghostbusters leaving Winston out. Even for GBII. I saw one ad where the ghostbusters were blasting away at the museum trying to crack the slime shell, and would you believe they cut Winston off the picture to make the ad more square?! My point is, Winston's importance in the grand sense may depend on the audience and who they are. Anyways, that is what I've observed.
