[glow=red,2,300]Ghost Fever[/glow](1986) Miramax
Principal stars : Sherman Hemsley, Louis Avados
The other evening i was browsing through a flea market i was browsing through a huge pile of VHS tapes that clearly came from a Video store, i bought a few but one film struck me as one to check out and report back to all of you about if it was any good. And as a result i am bringing it to your attention owing to the fact that it is very much in the irreverent spirit of the old GHOST BUSTERs series.
It begins one dark spooky night in a graveyard in 1988 in Greendale Georgia October 20th as the ghost of Andrew Lee, the son of ultra sadist Beaurigard Lee is prompted to leave his grave by the ghost of one of his fathers original slaves Jethro (Hemsley) now a buisy supernatural Civil Servent/Social Worker (shades of "Beetlejuice") who wanted Andy to have the right to haunt any place he wished to go.
Andys dad Beaurigard was so brutal that the slaves used Voodoo to kill him and condemed him to an un natural death with his spirit to wander the Earth without rest.
The day Beaurigard was buried Andy freed every slave and Jethro felt one good deed deserved another.
Andy wanted to haunt his family plantation, if he could put up with his fathers invisible spirit, but the outside world was conspiring against the house as the mean redneck Sheriff sends two bungling detectives Benny (Louis Avados) a hard headed Puerto Rican and Beauford (Hemsley in a dual role) his long time best friend who is from the local area to serve eviction papers for non payment of taxes to the 100 year old sisters Lisa and Linda Lee, Andys granddaughters, Beurigards great,great granddaughters who live there.
When they arrive at the plantation the Ghost of Beaurigard lays strait into them, Benny is a practical man who refuses to believe in the extraordinary events happening around and too him but Beauford (or "Beauf" as he prefers) is a local, he has no other choice but believe, he had a bad experience there when he was a kid one Halloween and knew better than to scoff at what he didn't understand.
They find The dungeons under the plantation where slaves were tortured, Andy and Jethro set about scaring these boys out but Beaurigard will not let them leave.
When they do meet the ladies they are bouth young, blond and busty, they and Beaurigards french mistress/medium have remained young inside that house, if they leave for any protracted amount of time without protection of ectoplasm pills they would become old instantly.
Beaurigard hates having men in his house courting his great grand daughters which raises the question of what he does with them year in, year out.
But always the racist he hates Beauf esspecialy - a Black man.
When Benny overcomes his scepticism enough to deal with the situation they begin to fight the ghost untill midnight when a seance would put him to rest.
But Beaurigard has his own plans, at midnight the seance gives him a corporeal form - the voodoo curse said he could not rest, when he became solid he was a Vampire - soon our hapless heroes learn the secret history of the plantation, that in the dungeons and torture chambers for over 100 years three mad doctors in Beaurigards employ have been making zombies, Benny and Beauf are to be new flesh donnors.
With the assistance of Andy and Jethro (who they never realy see in the course of the film) the boys escape and ultimately defeat the Vampire and the mad doctors flee, but the ladies are still not safe : there is still the back taxes to be paid and again it falls to Benny, Beauf, Jethro and Andy to save the day.
this film is comical but it is not entirely what it claims, the package describes it as " a contagious comedy for the whole family" but i would have to disagree : it has crotch hits, anal jabs, some bad language, sexual enuendo, and a gorey body part in a scene in the mad scientists lab, i would not say that this is for the very, very young.
Halloween is comming up and i thought i would bring this one to your attention, you might want to look for it because it has many of the indeering traits the old Ghost Busters show had.
