Any definitive evidence in the series? 1986 or further into the future? (nineties).

Well off hand I remember Prime Evil in "I'll Be A Son of a Ghostbuster" telling Mysteria and Floatzart to go back to the 80's to get they fathers. Anyways That sets the time frame of the first episode in the 80's and with the heavy use of a phone (phones died to the Cell phone) that means its pre-2000's. As far as what year in the 80's, technically you could claim any.

Nice call, Devil, nice call. It's 1986, definitely.

One thing that is a bit unusual, to me anyway, is how old are Jake and Eddie supposed to be ya think? Well Pat Fraley says in an interview on the DVD they're teenagers, I imagine 18 or 19 but if the original series was 1975 and there's no mention of them having kids. Maybe they never talked about their kids at work I mean it of course made sense to not have mention of them when they did the original series since I'm sure they never counted on making a cartoon about them having sons later. I dunno just trying to think about if ya wanna tie it together.

Not quite what Pat Fraley said, Zack. What he said was, he based the voice of Jake on when he [Pat] was a teenager, explaining that it was hard to get into that voice register.

ahh, guess I was watching it a little too early this morning! I figured them to be in their early to mid 20s which would be even more weird lol

I just think Jake is 30, while Eddie is slightly younger.

For some reason, I'd say it takes place in 1985.

Hmmm. Good thoughts on this subject so far, but consider this:
By being vauge as to the exact time the series takes place, it adds something of a timeless quality.
I watch the DVDs today and I think to myself, "What a wonderful world" (That finally releases one of my favorite shows on DVD).
Then I think, "Wow! This could actually be taking place today with a few minor changes".
Think about it. I don't recall there being many cultural references in the series and the technological ones can easily be juxaposed with technology of the modern era.
As for the office itself (The Ansa-bone for exaple), it can be explained that it's all their fathers' old equipment, of course it's a little out-dated. It just adds to the comedic effect.
Of course, it could all just be lazy and convientient writing.
What do you think?

CHAD, WELCOME!You're 100% right, it's timeless, the society they (the Juniors) live in seems not well defined (thank God). Mmmmm... what about the Twin Towers surrounding the Ghost Command?

Parallel world; the towers still stand.
Also: you're not THE Chad, from Ghostbusters.net, are you? If so, then: (*hands Chad a smoking, battered Dematerializer*) Welcome aboard!

(*Holds smoking, batterd Dematerializer at arm's length and jumps as it sparks.*)
While I do lay claim to the handle "The Chad" (And have Micheal Jackson's "Billie Jean" as a reference that pre-dates Tom Green in Charlie's Angels to prove that I am the first and original!) I am sadly, not THAT The Chad.
...but I'll take the Dematerializer anyway and thank you for the warm welcome.
(Looks at the smoking, batterd Dematerializer again.)
I think.
And I was going to say, are we sure those are THE Twin Towers, or just two random skyscrapers? I could never figure that out.
