Well, we don't use ghost traps here, so that was the only other alternative.

My idea is this: I think the series initially starts around 1986, but may spread over several years. Perhaps the episodes we're seeing are a sort of 'best of' of some of their initial adventures spanning a few years' time? I mean, aside from the first five episodes, most episodes stand on their own and aren't tied into each other.
The boys may have started the main training we see in the first five episodes at 18.5/19 years old in 1986. But then the episodes span several years instead of just one single year and by the final episode we see, they're in their mid to late 20's. I wouldn't go any older than that because typically marriage, family, etc. would also become a focal point for them (female biological clock and all). Jake was apparently dating Jessica, but that was the closest we come to any potential start of that next chapter in their lives that we get. Just as we really can't say they're younger than 18 because they're definitely out of school and adults since they're living on their own and their fathers are not living with them. That being said, I also wonder if they have limitation rules on time travel? As in, they're not allowed to jump say 20-40 years ahead from their current time where they'd be able to easily find out about themselves.
