Has anyone ever seen the 1946 film, "The Spook Busters?" I managed to stumble upon the last half hour or so on Turner Classic Movies this morning. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spook_BustersThere were just enough similarities here to make me wonder if there could be any kind of connection to the '75-'76 live-action series. The film stars the rather grown-up (by this time) Bowery Boys, as recent graduates of a pest extermination school. The Wikipedia link above has a better synopsis than I can give. What caught my attention? - Some of the costumes of Tucker and Storch had a 1940s look to them; "Spook Busters" was released in 1946.
- A gorilla is featured in both productions, although I'm sorry to say the "Spook Busters" simian meets a rather sad end.
- There's plenty of slapstick, physical humor in both productions.
Perhaps someone else has some insight into this.

It's funny...that page says that the working title was Ghost Busters.

Rko, Welcome to the board. Well, what can I say? Sounds like "our" Ghost Busters are not so much true as we supposed. It sounds like both the teams of Ghostbusters ripped off this... HEAVILY.The name, the concept.

saw this today as well, when I saw the gorilla I nearly died laughing! Wait... could this be Tracy's father? In some strange way, I mean his grand father was King Kong (1933). Before he died he had a fun romp at the manhatten zoo. Spook Busters took place in 1946 atleast 13 years apart. And if that gorilla was used for breeding before his untimely end Tracey would be have been born around those 30 years before GB76 took place. Which would make him still the youngest of the Gbs.

I say we can, yes! The only issue is how very DIFFERENT The Headless Horseman is in FGB86 vs Real Ghostbusters - not just their appearance (which we can overlook) but their personality!

I say we can, yes! The only issue is how very DIFFERENT The Headless Horseman is in FGB86 vs Real Ghostbusters - not just their appearance (which we can overlook) but their personality! 'Tis not too much of a big deal. If Prime Good is right about the FGB version of the Spirit World, we can safely assume that the FGB Headless Horseman inspired Washington Irving to write about his (and therefore the RGB) Headless Horseman at some point or another....Irving's is supposedly a soldier who got his head knocked off by a flying cannonball (or something) whereas the FGB Horseman comes directly from the Spirit World [and is implied to have been *created* by Prime Evil]. But then again, I like the Columbia and Filmation franchises to be separated by alternate dimensions, where the rules of ghosts and ghostbusting are very different. As a matter of fact, why don't we just say that Leo Gorcey and the Bowery Boys exist as actors within both universes, and Spook Busters thus exists as a movie in both universes.
