I found, in the "shiny toy guns" section, a pistol called the Space Patrol Blaster. It was basically one of those generic space guns made by some Korean company. Pulling the trigger resulted in a sound fairly close to the original Dematerializer's SFX, which I have not been able to source. (Efforts to describe it result in people looking at me as if I've lost my mind.) It's only $7, and should be readily available at (if you're Stateside) K-Mart, Wal-Mart, Target, Toys R Us, your local mall, a flea market, etc. Also, it's got one of those LED spinny things inside it that looks like the Dematerializer's video effect when it spins. Actually, I can see a quite simple reverse-engineering job of the SFB in the future. I would have to take the wires from the trigger and solder them to a standard "push-button" trigger from Home Depot, then rig the whole thing through the PVC tube. Thanks for the info - this is very cool! Especially the price

The shutter on the Dematerializer looks like it comes from a spotlight. It's too big to have come from a camera. I'll try to find some kind of place where I can buy the shutter itself, but I don't know. Haha, what a difference a few years makes. It occurs to me that it might be cheaper to get the thing 3D printed instead of trying to source an actual shutter.

Thanks for the info - this is very cool! Especially the price You can actually go cheaper still: Most of the cheapest ray-guns now use the same sound chip.
