i have been watching the 84 movie and the 70's show and really the 80's movie is not really a ripoff tyes it takes the name and getting rid of ghosts thing but not like dan akroyd was trying to cash in the sucess of a show from almost 10 years ago at the time but even that the two r soo diffrent the70's show:about 2 guys and a gorrila who are not that smart but the gorilla is who get there mmissions from a guy who sends them messages the explode and then the send the ghosts back to the ghost world now the 84 film:about 3 sguy who get fired from there collage jobs and decided to catch ghost and pretty much have a ghost jail then a fourth member joins and they begin to find out that theres a god is comeing to bring the end of the world
now as you can see the 84 movie did not really rip off the 70's show at all with the exception of the name sorry if there a topic like this i just wanted to get my thoughts on the matter out (: i also dont want to start any fights i just saying whats on my mind (: also i belive if it was not for the 84 film we would not have had the FGB animated show

IMHO, it's not just the name but:
1- Weird and "gizmo" energy-based machinery against ghosts. 2- The logo. 3- Using a "funny looking" car as vehicle. 4- The humour. Funny characters Vs. ghosts.
... my 2 cents.

i dont see how they stole the logo they look difrent and the 70's show had diffrent humor the the 80's movie Both the logos are white ghost shapes framed into a circle. Kinda of. Yeah, different humour, but the concept is quite the same: funny characters in a supernatural environment, pitted against ghosts. Not bashing the RGB, even.

wasnt the ghost in the circle of the 80's show yellow (: Just to help this debate a little, heres the filmation logo in question. images2.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20090407024250/filmationghostbusters/images/7/7a/GhostBustersLogoIntro.pngAnyways, the color of the logo isn't the issue here. It is the fact that the ghost is a unhappy ghost in a circle. Take out GB, add hands and a bar and you got the movie logo. Not that its a strong argument for stealing. The car does bug me tho, its clear that both series like to use old car as a icon so to speak. While reason may be better in the GB film for the equipment, it is clear that both use a beam of some sort from a gun to deal with ghosts which is odd as well. Seriously they could just as easy used a sweeper to suck up ghost instead of a gun. The GB Film sometimes feels a bit like its ripping off the 70's LA series.

i dont see it as ripping off i do agree it similer but it alot of movie are like that like for example like full metal jacket takes place in veitnam does that mean platoon is a ripoff no umm Al Capone(a 1950's movie) takes place in the mafia world does that make the godfaather a ripoff i would hope not (: and one last example batman 1989 has a batman wearing all black has a dark tone has the joker does this make the dark knight a rip off?

First off, I want a new Reitman directed CGB film with Ernie, Dan, and Harold. I know Murray wants out - so let's not beg him to stay. However, as I said in another thread, I am NOT interested in the whole "passing the torch to a new young team" plot. That would stink! The true fans want the real team, and no interruptions stealing screen time! Anyway, back to the main point - sorry Now, Filmation had an agreement to do the cartoon based on the Columbia movie...at the last minute Columbia said they weren't doing a cartoon (though as we know, they secretly were...they just didn't want our beloved Filmation to do it) so Filmation decided to do a cartoon based on their FGB75 creation - and there you go! FGB 86 was born! (Thankfully). So while you are right, it probably wouldn't have been made otherwise, that doesn't mean it shouldn't have been made. It's great! Think about the CGB84 library scene...now think about FGB75 with the cabinet in their office! I bet we can think of many more similarities. Coincidence? Maybe. Maybe Dan Aykroyd never saw GB75. And maybe he did. But Dan has come up with a lot of cool stuff, and I love the CGB84 film. I also think Marc Richards was a genius to think up FGB, and wish people would give FGB (both versions) more credit. So as we all say here, it's not a contest. There's room for both. But obviously, FGB fans got the raw deal, since so many people don't "get it" and only like CGB stuff, even though both are great!

The GB Film sometimes feels a bit like its ripping off the 70's LA series. ... and this is coming from a huge Sony/Columbia fan. Your points are excellent, Devil. Truly. You summed it up pretty well. Fact is, we're not bashing the GB84 movie. We actually love it. But the similarities are too strong to be just coincidences, IMHO.

I'm wondering what's the general consensus about Sony/Columbia fans about the similarities issue, but I'm VERY afraid to know the answer...

then again the 70's show is a rip off of spook busters from what i hear (: Just the name (PART of it). If you see the movie, you would see there isn't much in common between the two.

There's one way in which the first film and the live-action series differ:
In Ghostbusters, the ghosts actually pose something of a threat. They can't actually kill anyone themselves, but if a poltergeist were to fling a saucepan at just the right speed, and hit someone with it in just the right place...well, it could put them in the hospital.
In The Ghost Busters, the ghosts never really did anything dangerous, and they were sometimes even a little incompetent.

Yes, the only one who seemed dangerous was Dr. Centigrade - he tried to cut out Spenser's heart! Incompetent sidekick, though. And they were a hilarious duo!
