I'm wondering:
1- Will Eddie ever get serious and brave in the future to come? 2- Is the greatest resource of the character supposed to be his "dumb luck"? Any episode suggesting his dumb luck anyway?

I just think that his cowardness and puerile/naive attitude are due to extremely young age. Maybe he's just 20-22 years old, despite he looks older... that would explain his lack of confidence. So expect a serious and kick-a** Eddie in his thirties. Plus that awesome safari-punk uniform we all love...

true he felt competent without jake in 2 episodes eddie takes charge & Maze caves so i guess he wanted to prove a point about his confidence to jake so i guess eddie has self confidence in some valid points in his age

& he wanted to prove himself once more in the way you are when he was tired of messing things up as well but wanted to be himself again bc theyd really miss him if the super hero guy really took over eddie spensers legacy you could see the sadness on his face before seeing the wizard to change back to the old eddie too

Billiris, Thank you so much for providing us with some valid examples about Eddie's early career as Ghostbuster.

Yeah...I'm dusting off some of these older threads...
I see Eddie's progression into a decent ghostbuster even in the series. There's several episodes where he proves himself quite competent be it a mission or just a task. He's even taken initiative on a couple of tasks and jobs as well. Jake may have the brains and Tracy the strength, but Eddie's got the heart! All three working together is what makes this team strong, especially as they gain more experience. The boys were thrown into the fire so to speak and had to gain initial experience in real ghostbusting situations to rescue their fathers. That increased their learning curve (bad move, Prime Evil!). In that one episode (I can't remember its name), Eddie busted those huge ghost termites like he was the only 'buster there and he did it by getting on its back with a fly swatter thingy!
Eddie's faults can be fixed fairly easily. They're not tied as tightly to his personality like some of Jake's are. Eddie's laziness--he can fix that. His lack of confidence/self-esteem and being a bit of a coward improves over time and experience. His body shape--he's not fat, he's more big-boned as muscles, etc. can be seen in the transformation scene and the shrunken uniforms. His modesty, heart, and empathy are endearing traits that'll benefit him as time goes on. While this is my perspective, it's Jake's issues that are not easily fixable and could actually be more detrimental to the team than Eddie's. He's not as 'perfect' as some people see him. He's quick to judge, slightly chauvinistic (especially thinking ladies can't handle dangerous situations eventhough he sees them do it well), sometimes insensitive (especially towards Eddie), and secretive. His ability to 'trick' ghosts through bluffing and lies, which is most helpful on the job, could translate into other parts of his life as well whether he knows he's doing it or not. While he does give Eddie opportunities to shine (but Eddie's usually hiding behind Tracy), Jake needs to step back a little more often to allow Eddie to 'think and do.' But this is an Eddie thread, so my dissection of Jake will stop at that. I just wanted to show that Eddie's not the only one with some 'issues.' The team as a whole, has some 'dumb' luck. I don't think Eddie can claim that one on his own.
