I'd put in something epic. Something new. Prime Evil summoning the most ancient of ghosts. The First living thing to die. Powerful, supreme, and equally irritated with the Haunter ... I'll have to think about this one. Yeah, I agree. Must be an apocalyptic season finale.

I'd set it some years later. There's been no ghosts nor demons for over a decade. Ghost command is now a museum, Jake is with Jessica, Eddie with Futura, and Tracy is back home somewhere with his mate. Prime Evil is working on summoning the First that Died, but at the same time, a group of insane cultists are attempting to summon Prime Evil. They are successful and summon Prime Evil to Earth before he can bind the First to his will. The first quickly takes over Haunt Quarters and the rest of Limbo, feeding off many young ghosts, many of whom are not evil, to grow stronger. Aware of the............G.......... Ghostbusters , The First drags Earth and it's entire galaxy into a prison in Limbo from which they cannot possibly escape. The rest of the universe is now ripe for the picking, and the spooky invasion begins. Time is shot to hell, and absolute chaos falls over everything, past present and future, apart from one small galaxy. With the help of a grumpy old man with long white hair and a walking stick, Prime Evil and a short, impish fellow in a panama hat, the Gostbusters break out and go in search of The First... the long way round as they need something to defeat him. intercepted by Big Evil, now the slave of The First, they must first deal with him. [OK, I need to add more here because something has to happen in between] By the time of the final confrontation with The First, all looks lost. But something happens: The ground opens up beneath their feet and a smartly dressed man in a black suit crawls from the ground holding a small triangular device. With a look from his eyes, he commands The First into the triangle, commenting "This universe is mine! When the time is right." Without a word, he steps calmly into the fissure, which reseals and everything is restored to normality, leaving the Ghostbusters with a possible future challance, with the Lord of Darkness himself

Interesting ideas, really. I love the fact Ghost Command is a museum, so poetic. We know ghosts will come back for sure, and for a valid reason: we ALREADY know future times are filled with ghosts!
